Benjamin Federmann, Technical Sales Engineer, Guardium
Benjamin Federmann, Technical Sales Engineer, Guardium will be presenting Benjamin is a Technical Sales Engineer for Guardium (www.guardium.com), the most widely-used solution for database activity monitoring, security and auditing. Benjamin has over 20+ years experience in software development and presale engineering. Prior to Guardium, he worked as a Sales Consultant for Oracle Corporation. Previously Benjamin was a software developer and systems engineer for Comverse. Benjamin studied Computer Science at Lund University in Sweden.

Presentation Summary: Recent high-profile data breaches have raised awareness of the insider threat and the criminal networks that now buy and sell sensitive data such as credit card data. In his presentation, Mr. Federmann will outline real-world examples of how insider data breaches occur and the critical steps many well-known US and European organizations -- such as leading global banks and government agencies -- are taking to prevent these breaches from occurring. He will also discuss best practices for implementing database security and auditing in the context of data governance frameworks such as COBIT/SOX and Internal Privacy Acts, focusing on best practices for enforcing change control policies and preventing unauthorized database changes (in addition to preventing attacks by malicious insiders and outsiders).

Brian Turchyn and Andrey Kolmakov Security Analysts with the Information Protection Centre of the Manitoba Government will present on Attacks and Methodologies Against Web-Based Applications. A look into some of the most common attacks used against web-based applications and the threat they pose to online security. Presentation will include background information on the attacks, defense mechanisms to prevent them, and demonstrations of the attacks and defenses discussed.
