Barbara L. Johnson, CISSP, CISSP-ISSMP, CBCP
Barbara Johnson is an information security and business continuity consultant with twenty years of experience in designing, implementing and monitoring computer/network controls and processes to processes to protect corporate proprietary, personal privacy, and government classified information from fraud, misuse, intrusion and interruption. She strategizes enterprisewide security architecture, develops information protection and business continuity programs, devises information security policies, standardizes technologies and processes, and creates education, training and awareness workshops and collateral. In addition to consulting, Ms. Johnson is a Senior and Lead Instructor for the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium (ISC2); and through its five day Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) course, she prepares hundreds of security professionals each year to earn their CISSP certification. She identifies key subject areas for the security industry, serving the ISC2 Common Body of Knowledge Committee (CBK). She edits ISC2 Seminar and Book offerings. For The Business Continuity Institute (The BCI), Ms. Johnson developed its Certification Instructor Led Training Course and prepares business continuity professionals for The BCI Certificate Exam

Ms. Johnson holds the following certifications: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Information Systems Security Management Professional (ISSMP), Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP), and Member Business Continuity Institute (BCI). Ms. Johnson earned a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Systems Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology and a Masters in Business Administration from Loyola Marymount University.

SESSION DESCRIPTION (40 CPE Credits)

Monday Tuesday and Wednesday
Course Objectives:
The Course objective is to provide all attendees a thorough understanding of the art and science of business continuity management. This will introduce the attendee to the latest practices in Business Continuity Planning, Incident Response Planning and the key steps in leading or supporting a business continuity project.

Course Length:
This is a three day course with eight hours of practical examples, lecture and case studies each day.

Course Content:
Business Continuity Management depends on good project management, leadership, structure and an understanding of the business mission goals and processes. This course leads the attendees through the steps of business continuity management including;

  • Program planning
  • Business impact analysis
  • Determining recovery strategy
  • Developing business continuity plans
  • Testing and Implementing business continuity
  • Maintaining the Plans and creating a culture of continuity

  • This course is based on best practices and international standards including the BS25999, BCI and DRII Good Practice Guidelines and a wealth of practical experience.

    Course Layout:
    This is designed to be a course that leads to a practical understanding of BCM, and will combine lecture with discussion, practical exercises and examples.

    Who should attend?
    Business Continuity Management requires the involvement of personnel throughout the organization. This course will provide every person regardless of their role in the project, a complete understanding of the overall BCM project, the roles and responsibilities of each member of the team and how to make the Business Continuity Project a successful and rewarding program for the organization. Attendees will include Project Managers, Business Unit Representatives, Business Continuity Planners, Emergency Committee Members, and Auditors.

    Thursday - Friday
    Course Objectives:
    The course objective is to provide all attendees a thorough understanding of how to preserve and support business operations in the event of a crisis through the deployment of essential IT infrastructure and data. Disaster Recovery Planning ensures that the IT services an organization requires in order to continue to operate and meet its mission are identified and plans are in place to provide those services in a crisis.

    Course Length:
    This is a two day course with eight hours of practical examples, lecture and case studies each day.

    Course Content:
    Disaster Recovery Planning depends on understanding the Information technology needs of each department and the organization as a whole. This requires an understanding of business relationships, data flow and backup, technology, and recovery solutions.
    Some key areas of the Disaster Recovery Plan include;
  • Technology
  • Data Backup alternatives
  • Communications
  • Configurations
  • Alternate site deployment
  • Hardware and Software licensing and inventory
  • Maintaining the Plans and keeping them current with business changes
  • Restoration and recovery

    Course Layout:
    This is designed to be a course that leads to a practical understanding of Disaster Recovery, the integration of Disaster Recovery with Business Continuity Planning and Business Continuity Management and will combine lecture with discussion, practical exercises and examples.

    Who should attend?
    Disaster Recovery Planning requires the involvement of many personnel throughout the organization, from users to administrators. This course will provide every person regardless of their role in the project, a complete understanding of their role in a Disaster and how to be prepared to handle a crisis. Attendees will include Project Managers, IT Architects and Administrators, Operators, Business Unit Representatives, Business Continuity Planners, Emergency Committee Members, and Auditors.
