He has had a seven-year career working with many aspects of IT including project management, IT systems design and development, IT systems implementation, business process design and review, internal auditing, as well as roles in operational leadership.

Gustavo has developed and implemented an IT strategic plan for a federal government organization, and has utilized the COBIT® standard in assessing the effectiveness of IT management's processes at a number of organizations. He has also utilized the COBIT® framework in advising, identifying, documenting and remediation of IT controls to support compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley.

SESSION OVERVIEW (1 CPE Credit)
Building an IT strategic plan is essential to ensuring success of the IT function. The COBIT® standard can be a useful tool in identifying the strategic areas of IT that a company may be overlooking. COBIT® provides a framework that includes a set of control objectives and recommended detailed control activities to lead an organization through the management of IT, and to evaluate how an organization measures up against these control objectives. Moreover, COBIT® provides a Maturity Model to report on that assessment by comparing it with best practices, international standards, and the goals of the organization.

In this presentation, we will discuss an approach to implement the COBIT® Management Guidelines to drive management concerns, the Maturity Model for self-assessment, and the guidelines to measure and reach established goals. Additionally, we will highlight the importance of these COBIT® processes in assisting compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Canada's Bill 198.
