Session Overview

This informative and timely event will provide an overview of how Canada's new privacy regime, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act ("PIPEDA"), is actually being implemented and enforced.   Using "lessons learned" from recent cases, Brian T. D. Bowman will survey the rapidly evolving legislative environment to provide practical guidance to comply with PIPEDA's ongoing legal obligations.   Other related topics that will be covered at this event will include the impact of the U.S. Patriot Act on Canadian businesses, outsourcing, customer relations management (CRM) and the expected issues and opportunities on the privacy horizon.

Speaker Information

Brian T. D. Bowman, J.D., B.A. (Adv.) is a lawyer with PITBLADO, Barristers & Solicitors, who practices in the areas of privacy, access to information, technology, e-commerce and corporate/commercial law, with a specialty in matters relating to privacy law compliance, e-business initiatives, and technology products and services.   Brian acts as legal counsel to private, public and non-profit organizations on a national and local basis and is a frequent speaker, media commentator and author regarding various aspects of privacy law.   Brian currently serves as Secretary of the National Privacy Law Section of the Canadian Bar Association.
